Landscapes of Haltom City

The Library is currently selling the Landscapes of Haltom City coloring book. This book was the joint idea of the Friends of the Haltom City Public Library and art educators, Kristen Autrey and Amber Beranek. The coloring pages in the book, created by members of the Haltom High School Art Club and the National Art Honor Society 2016 - 2018, feature many buildings and scenes straight out of Haltom City illustrated in a captivating style. 

The coloring book can be purchased at the Library for only $10.00. As always, you can purchase this with cash, credit/debit or check. We will gladly take your payment over the phone and mail you a copy.

 All proceeds go to the Friends of the Haltom City Public Library, an auxiliary group dedicated to volunteering, fundraising and advocating for the Library.

Come make a Book Craft Ornament on Wednesday, December 5 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. This is for adults and teens, and no registration is required. All supplies provided while they last.

The Haltom City Senior Center is very proud to present a Cliburn in the Community Concert on Friday, December 7, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. Rachel Cheung, a 2017 Cliburn Competition finalist and audience award winner, will perform a free 45 minute concert to our seniors.Everyone is invited to this free concert, but please call and make your reservation with the Senior Center by noon on Thursday, December 6th. Cliburn in the Community provides the experience of live classical music performance for free to a broad audience through partnerships with vibrant venues and organizations throughout the Fort Worth area. The program brings in young, emerging artists for week long residencies to include performances and other community engagement opportunities.

Escape the holiday madness with Coloring and Cookies for Grown Ups. Enjoy Christmas cookies and holiday themed coloring pages on Friday, December 7, from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. A special door prize will be given out this month.

Teens can come HANG OUT on Friday, December 7 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. for games, snacks, and crafts.

Enjoy some Christmas music with Flutissimo! Flue Choir on Monday, December 10 at 7:00 p.m. This free concert is open to all ages and no registration is required.

And for what you've been waiting for - SANTA! Thursday, December 20 at 6:30 p.m. the library will have a special Holiday Bedtime Story Time!  Make sure to bring your camera and wear your best pajamas for an evening of full of fun! We will have the Merry Makers performing, pictures with Santa and Mrs. Claus, crafts, stories, and refreshments! 

Teens can DECK THE HALLS on Friday, December 21 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. to make an ornament craft, watch a holiday movie and enjoy a snack.

The Library will host a Santa Paws Tree for the Haltom City Animal Shelter. Come in and choose a gift to purchase for the shelter. More details coming soon.

Halloween Book Display

 

Check out the Halloween display at the Library courtesy of Melinda Williams and her mother Valerie Deering. Melinda has designed book cover art and Valerie has created bookmarks to compliment the book covers. Her love of all things Halloween led her to the creation of her specialty books.

She also volunteers at area assisted living centers as well as at the Haltom City Public Library.

Melinda is a local artisan who also designs and makes her own jewelry.

Overdue Fine Rate Changes

 

Beginning October 1, 2018, the Haltom City Public Library will no longer charge fines for overdue materials.

What is changing?

Any MetrOPAC library patron that checks out Haltom City Public Library materials will no longer be charged the $0.20 a day fine for overdue materials.

Cards will blocked from checking out additional materials if there is an overdue, lost, missing part, or damaged item on the account.

What is not changing?

Patrons will still be responsible for overdue fines for other MetrOPAC libraries’ materials.

Patrons will continue to be billed replacement fees for ALL materials that are not returned, are lost, or are returned damaged.

Library cards will continue to be blocked for fine accruals of $5.00 or more. Fine accruals include, but are not limited to, lost items, damaged items, missing parts, card replacement fees, and other MetrOPAC libraries’ overdue fines.

What about fines currently on my account?

If your library card is blocked because of overdue fines or lost materials, please contact the library. We will do what we can to work with you for existing fines for Haltom City Public Library materials.

One of the most frequently asked questions in the summer is "What is the name of the tree in front with the purple flowers?"

In front of the library building are Vitex agnus-castus, more commonly known as Texas Vitex. Other names include "Texas Lilac Vitex,” “Texas Lilac,” “Vitex,” “Hemp Tree,” “Sage Tree,” “Indian Spice,” or “Chaste Tree.”

Whatever you call it, it produced beautiful purple flowers in the summer that pollinators love.

2018-2019 BISD Battle of the Books

We have the books for Battle of the Books!

About the Battle of the Books

The purpose of the Battle of the Books is to:

• Promote recreational reading.
• Expose students to a variety of literature.
• Enhance reading comprehension and retention.
• Foster academic competition, and
• Develop the ability to work as a team.

The BISD Librarians select the books based on:

• Appropriate variety of reading levels and interests.
• Variety of genres, such as adventure, mystery, historical fiction, fantasy, science fiction, biography, folktales, fairytales and realistic fiction. (Due to the nature of Battle of the Books we have excluded other informational texts.)
• Variety of authors
• Quality books that are well written and timeless. Possible candidates may include: Newbery, Caldecott, Texas Bluebonnet Award and other award lists.
• Availability: Books should be in print. Paperback bindings are preferred.

TMLDA Achievement of Library Excellence Award

The Haltom City Public Library is honored to receive the Texas Municipal Library Directors Association's Achievement of Excellence in Libraries Award for the 2016-2017 fiscal year. Only 52 libraries of the 548 library systems in Texas earned this award. This is the Haltom City Public Library's tenth time being awarded this honor.

Art Exhibit - Texas Pottery Supply & Clay Company Display

The Haltom City Public Library is pleased to exhibit works from students of Texas Pottery Supply. 

Owner Jill Davis says:

"Texas Pottery Supply is a full service pottery shop in Haltom City!  We manufacture all of our own clays (earthen-ware and stone-ware)!  Being a retired art teacher, I still offer classes in wheel-throwing and hand-building!  We do special events for “Ladies' Night Out” at the HC Public Library, bible study groups, date nights, team building or whatever special group is interested!  We also offer kids’ classes in the summer!"
